DROITWICH Spa Ladies returned to the top of the West Midlands Regional Football League Division One South following a comprehensive 5-1 home victory over Rubery Ladies.
Having beaten Redditch Ladies 5-1 last week, Droitwich started the day in third position in the table, one place behind Sunday’s opponents and went into the game knowing that only a win would keep them in the title chase.
Spa started well and took a well-deserved lead after just eight minutes when Beth Roberts headed home a Katie Armento corner.
Droitwich went 2-0 up through an own goal and April Polden made it 3-0 just before the half-time break, sliding the ball home from outside the area after latching onto a defensive mix up.
A brace from Armento in the first nine minutes of the second period, the second a superb strike direct from a free kick twenty five yards out, gave Droitwich an unassailable lead.
Despite excellent football in all areas of the field, Spa were unable to add to their tally, conceding a consolation goal.
