ANOTHER successful week for Bromsgrove Tennis Club involved the men’s teams.

An outstanding performance by the D team of Pete Morris with Jack Walters and Mark Blake with Tim Roland saw them win 4-0 away against Wollaston B team.

In a comprehensive victory they never gave Wollaston a look in. All four rubbers were won in straight sets and the game score of 49-18 shows the dominance of Bromsgrove.

After the match Jack Walters said : “Our last couple of matches have seen us really click and the victories are pushing us well up Division Six after a shaky start.”

The Division Three contest between Bromsgrove B team and Stourport A was much anticipated with a history of close results.

Again a strong performance by Bromsgrove saw them complete a 4-0 win over old adversaries.

Phil Boardman and Jeth Tomlinson, who recovered from 3-0 down in the final set of their opening match to win 6-3, had the toughest battle.

Their second encounter was more straightforward as they won 6-4, 6-3.

Ollie Stratford with Steve Jones continued their great season with comprehensive 6-1, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-3 victories.

The win pushes Bromsgrove up to second place in the table.

Captain Steve Jones said: “We were disappointed by our last match which finished our promotion hopes, but this strong win shows we can take the runners up spot if we continue at this level.”

Meanwhile, the Ladies B team had a good win 3-1 against Barnt Green A team to consolidate their place at the top of Division Two. There’s now a strong chance that promotion will see Bromsgrove with two teams in the top division next year, showing the strength in depth of the club.

Imogen Sinclair and Sophie Cornelius had two easy wins – 6-3, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-1. Hannah Weston with Kelly Kenward had a difficult opening contest, going down 7-5, 6-2, but recovered well to win the next 6-0, 6-3. A depleted Ladies C team took on unbeaten leaders Worcester A in Division Five and went down 0-4.

Steph Armstrong with Millie Doherty pushed the opposition hard in their opening match but couldn’t get the vital breakthrough.

Sheila Richardson and Connie Wedelich both came in as substitutes from the D team, but were unable to make an impression on the strong opposition.

Finally the Ladies G team were deprived of any action in Division 11 as Ombersley E team gave them a walkover.
