Droitwich 11, Newbold 36

DROITWICH reacted well to their defeat last week to give the Midlands Division Two West (South) leaders a scare.

Spa started the brighter and took a 6-0 lead from two Bobby Scott-Walker penalties.

The hosts were in the ascendancy and the visitors had to infringe at the breakdown to stop them from scoring certain tries.

However, once again individual errors coupled with a good backs move by the visitors allowed Newbold to go in to the second half leading 10-6 after a converted try and a penalty.

Spa knew they had the visitors on the back foot and tried to seize their opportunity, but with Newbold’s experience and know-how they kicked on.

However, Spa’s defence was relatively sound, despite the speed and muscle of the leaders.

Droitwich had the last word with some great phase play allowing Sam Davenport to produce some magical footwork on the wing and skin his opposition to score in the corner.

Head coach Rob Bray said: “I’m very proud. We were looking for a reaction after last week and we got one against the best side in the league, our physicality and aggression was immense.”
