DROITWICH Spa were edged out 3-1 by title-chasing Leicester Road at home in a tight Midlands Division Two clash.

Spa had battled back from behind from a tenth-minute penalty by James Hicks.

But Droitwich more than matched their rivals and Macauley Finch levelled the scores in the second half.

James Lemon also had an effort cleared off the line as Spa took the game to their opponents.

The match seemed to turn in Leicester’s favour when the hosts were denied a penalty after Finch was fouled in the box.

Lloyd Gamble fired the away side ahead.

And Hicks added another in the 87th minute to seal Spa’s defeat as they tried to chase the game.

Joint manager Wayne Oliver said: “It was a very close game, we certainly matched Leicester Road for long periods and in the end it was only small errors.

“It was an interesting game with lots of talking points and it was a match we could have won if things had gone differently.

“We’ve come a long way since we first played them.”

Spa will now face Chelmsley Town at home on Saturday (3pm ko).

Town are one place above Spa, who are keen to alleviate any lingering relegation worries, so they will be aiming to go all out to take all three points.
