PAUL Smith believes the chance to play at Walsall's Bescot Stadium will provide all the motivation Bromsgrove Sporting's players need to end the season strongly.

The club can look forward to a show piece final against either Southam or Littleton on May 6 in the Les James Challenge Cup after defeating Coventry Copsewood on Saturday.

Goals for Chris Conway and Lewis Clarke saw the Rouslers come through a game which was marred by strong winds.

Bromsgrove remain in the hunt for the title in the Midlands Division One, although their poor form means they will need to win all of their games and hope their rivals slip up.

"We made a few unusual selections and played people in unfamiliar positions but it worked very well," said Smith.

"The wind was blowing in every direction and it made it very difficult to play but we defended well and took our chances.

"Now we've got something to look forward which keeps the season alive and I am sure they players will be doing their all to be selected for the final."

Sporting have games in hand on all their rivals for the championship but leaders Highgate United still have a healthy lead at the top.

Bromsgrove bounced back from a poor run of results with a 3-1 win over Stafford.

Smith said: "We are starting again in terms of performances but we haven't given up hope of winning the league.

"Highgate have eight games left but I think they will need to win six of those and they've got some tough games."

Sporting have signed former Alvechurch and Studley midfielder Robbie Freedman, while Aaron Williams, who has been studying at university in Leeds, is now available again.

Sporting, who were set to play Heather St Johns at home on Tuesday, go to Studley on Saturday and Pershore on Monday (both 3pm ko).

Smith joined Sporting from Studley in September.

He said: "Studley are one of the nicest clubs I have ever played for or managed and I am looking forward to returning."
