DROITWICH Spa Ladies go into Sunday’s County Cup final attempting to win silverware for the second consecutive season and cap off what has been a remarkable year for the club.

Spa take on Wyre Forest Phoenix at Stourport Swifts on Sunday (2pm ko) holding the edge after defeating their rivals from Kidderminster twice in the league.

Forest did edge out Droitwich on penalties in the League Cup quarter-final.

Having won the Herefordshire and Worcestershire County League in the 2013-14 campaign and sealing promotion to the West Midlands Regional football league, Spa have exceeded expectations at the higher level.

They currently lie top of Division One South with two league games to play.

Manager Ian Fry said: “My players have been absolutely amazing this season. Although it is unlikely that we will the league because of the games in hand of our nearest rivals, to finish runners-up in this league would represent a fantastic achievement for my girls.

"To win the County Cup as well would cap off a brilliant season for us and would be just reward for the girls and all their hard work.”

Since starting up in 2011 with just nine players, the club has grown considerably and now boasts two teams, with the Droitwich Belles playing in the Midwest Counties League.
