BARNT Green hailed in-form young spinner Josh Poysden as he weaved his magic to leave Dorridge in a spell.

The 23-year-old Warwickshire bowler took an eye-catching five wickets for 12 runs as the Cherry Hill Road side made it two wins in a row to sit on top of the Birmingham League Premier.

Green had won the toss and and put the home side into bat and after opening bowlers captain Andy Sutton and Simon Jackson had made early breakthroughs, Poysden came to the fore as Dorridge were dismissed for 136.

Sam Cheshire then hit 96 runs as the away team recovered from 25-3 to win by seven wickets.

Sutton said: “Josh is a young lad but now he’s signed a new deal at Warwickshire and that’s taken the pressure off him and allowed him to express himself.

“He was excellent against Dorridge, he bowled with variation and it was like he had the ball on a piece of string.

“We got into some trouble in reply but Sam Cheshire was fantastic again.”

Green, who are top of the table, now face their stiffest challenge yet with two tough home matches this weekend.

They entertain unbeaten Knowle and Dorridge in the league on Saturday (noon start), and the following day tackle Kidderminster Victoria in the next round of the National Knockout Cup (1pm start).

Barnt Green have already defeated KVCC in the Graham Williamson Trophy.

Sutton said: “This weekend is our toughest test yet.”
