ASTWOOD Bank were blown away by bowler Stefan Van Dyk as they suffered a stunning eight wicket defeat at the hands of Streetly in Birmingham League Division Three.

Bank had won the toss and opted to bat first but they were dismissed for 66 in 21 overs.

Van Dyk, who previously played for Oxford, took 6-43 during a devastating spell to leave Astwood with a huge mountain to climb.

Only Sam Thomas (17) and Thomas Harris (15) got into double figures, while Steve Hinton (2-1) and Matt Bates (2-16) also chipped in for the hosts.

The away side's bowlers faced an uphill battle to somehow get Astwood back into the game but Streetly's opening pair of Matt Hinton (16) and Neil Curtis (39) handed the hosts a good start.

Matthew McDonald made the breakthrough when he dismissed Hinton and Dan Taylor bowled Curtis but Streetly cruised for 67-2 by the 15th over.

Captain Steve Adshead said: "We won and toss and opted to bat first and I would do it again because the wicket was very flat.

"Unfortunately, we came up against a player who hit top form and bowled extremely well.

"We've lost the last two games but before that we had been playing well."

Astwood take on Kings Heath in Birmingham on Saturday.

They will welcome back Tom Pedley into the first team after a series impressive displays.

Pedley had moved to London but is commuting back to the Midlands to play for Astwood.

He was in excellent form in in Bank's National Village Knockout clash and also scored 160 runs for the seconds in their defeat to Kenilworth Wardens/
