DROITWICH Spa FC are set to step up their preparations for the new season in the Midlands Division Two when pre-season training starts on Friday, July 4.

Joint managers Wayne Oliver and Mark Owen are expecting to have almost all the players from the squad which finished the 2014-15 campaign so well attend training.

In a boost for the club, key men such as top scorer James Lemon, James Ward and Matt Oliver shrugged off interest from clubs higher up the non-league pyramid to confirm they will continue to play for Spa.

Droitwich finished their highest ever league position last year in ninth place, breaking the cycle of being relegation strugglers.

Oliver said: "James, Matt and James have had some interest from other clubs have had said they want to remain with us.

"We don't pay players so you can understand why players are tempted to play at a higher level.

"But the lads are buzzing about next season.

"We want to build on the good work we did last year, we won't be getting carried away."
