A BUSY week of competitive tennis at Barnt Green started with the mixed B team all but sealing promotion with a crushing four set victory over a shellshocked Droitwich D for the loss of only three games.

The first pair of teen starlet Beth Harris and father-figure Chris Linsell dominated both matches with powerful hitting from both wings whilst second pair of Dave Grinnell and Victoria Clipsham hypnotised their opponents with some deft touches from all areas of the court.

On Sunday morning the men’s A team returned to action and recorded their first positive result of the season, a winning draw by just a single game against Wall Heath A.

Paul Bill’s relentless ground strokes were complimented by new member George Bott’s dominance of the net.

Big servers James Hodges and Dave Grinell worked well together while an injured James Flynn was nursed successfully through by all-court maestro Paul Cowie.

The ladies A team boosted their chances of an immediate return to Division Two with a fine 6-0 rubbers to 0 victory away to Halesowen A.

Halesowen resident Beth Harris enjoyed her short walk home after partnering the powerful Rachel Scott in two emphatic victories whilst Jane Hampson and Pauline Doolan were once again too strong for the opposition.

Third pair of team regular Victoria Clipsham and the ever-elegant Faye Edwards complimented each other beautifully, and with 3 fixtures remaining leaves promotion very much within sight.
