A GOLDEN week at Barnt Green Sports Club as the tennis teams registered a triple promotion, sealing two league titles in the process.

First up on Monday were the mixed B team – who were looking to secure the handful of points away at Bewdley required to move up to Division Six.

Despite starting shakily on the unfamiliar green clay courts, first pair of Victoria Clipsham and Andrew Yair came through the first match 7-6 6-0, while second duo Beth Harris and her grandfather Lawrence Turner completed a more straightforward 6-2 6-3.

In the return rubbers, Harris and Turner prevailed 6-1 6-3 in double-quick time while Clipsham and Yair continued their good form from the first match winning the first set 6-0, but struggling to hold on 7-6 in the second set to complete a 4-0 victory for the new champions.

The victoriousHarris and Turner were back in action on Saturday helping the ladies A-team to secure promotion with an excellent 5-1 victory over Evesham A.

They teamed up to win both their matches comfortably, as did the first pairing of Rachel Scott and Jane Hampson.

Third pair of Megan Resse and Caroline Harris won one and lost one to complete a 5-1 victory for Barnt Green and leave them looking forward to life in division 2 next year.

The week was rounded off perfectly by the men’s team who bettered the winning draw required to seal the title in beating Pershore B 6-0.

First pair of the reunited James Hickman and Chris Southam won their matches 6-1, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-0 while second pairing of Dave C Taylor and Hammad Ahmed won their matches even more comfortably, dropping only one game in all four sets.

Though the third pair of Tim Clipsham and David Harris had a momentary lapse in the first match and dropped a set, they won both rubbers to leave the B team confident of progression again next year in division 7.
