BARNT Green captain Andrew Sutton has said he’d love the Birmingham League Premier to switch to the ODI format all season.

Currently, the season is split between the win/lose system used at the highest level and the more traditional set-up where teams can also draw.

The season is divided into the first five and last six games being played in the one day international system.

Sutton said: “I think the win/lose system is very exciting and will attract new people into club cricket.

“At the end of the season, all the clubs sit down with the league and talk about that does and doesn’t work.

“I will certainly be pushing very hard for it to be used for the entire season.”

Green bagged their third win in five matches on Saturday as they defeated Walmley by 83 runs.

Sutton won the toss and made an impressive 309-9 in 50 overs.

Opening batsmen Sam Cheshire (55) and Luke Radford (30) got them off to a good start, before Matthew Lamb made 105 off 114 balls.

Green’s opponents were the dismissed for 224 in 44 overs, with the bowling attack sharing the wickets. Josh Poysden (3-39) and Tom Brown (3-46), who also scored a half century, were in good form.

Sutton said: “A score of 309 is always going to be a good one and that gave us a platform to build on.

“The bowlers then all chipped in for a very good win.

“We’ve got Brockhampton away next and one more win will ensure our safety.”
