BROMSGROVE Sporting are hoping young striker Connor Collins can regain his predatory touch in front of goal.

The forward joined the Rouslers from Halesowen Town last week and marked his debut with their second goal in the 2-1 win over Atherstone.

Collins scored 44 goals in Midlands Division Two last season for Fairfield and also had a spell at Worcester City.

In the summer, he opted to join the Yeltz ahead of Bromsgrove but has been lured to the Victoria Ground.

Sporting manager Paul Smith said: “Connor was someone I pushed really hard to sign in the summer but he wanted to see what he could do at a higher level and that’s fair enough.

“I’ve told him sometimes it’s better for a younger player to drop down a level and we’re delighted to have him.

“He missed a very good chance on Saturday but then scored a very good goal five minutes later, which was great for him.

“We aim to get him smiling again, get him enjoying his football and scoring lots of goals.

“Atherstone is a hard place to go, so it’s encouraging to get a result.”

Meanwhile, Sporting are searching for a goalkeeper to bring in on a short-term loan after new addition Chris Jay fractured a finger in the warm-up on Saturday.

Jay, who had just signed from Tividale last week, played on but has since been diagnosed with the injury and is set to be out for two or three weeks.

Smith said: “I have spent six months trying to get Chris and then we’ve had this set back.

“Unfortunately, Shaun Edwards has moved on and Brendan Bunn is looking for a new club so I need to get a 'keeper in on loan for a small period.”

Sporting will be looking to progress in the FA Vase on Saturday, when they take on Dudley Sports at home (3pm kick-off).

“This is a competition we want to do well in.

“The Vase is only eligible for teams up to a level above, so if we get some luck we could go a long way.”
