BROMSGROVE Sporting manager Paul Smith was delighted to see his side continue their progress in the FA Vase.

Goals for Sam Wills, Connor Smith and Sean Brain ensured that the Rouslers got the better of Dudley Sports on Saturday.

Success means Sporting now face a trip to Midlands Premier side Dunkirk, based in Nottinghamshire, in the first round proper on Saturday, October 31.

Smith said: “The win over Dudley was very pleasing and we were comfortable throughout.

“To be honest it was an odd game, we were so much in control that that there was not a lot of excitement.

“We scored early on and then made it 2-0 soon after and always looked like we could score more.

“Now we have a tough game away from home at Dunkirk, so that is going to be a test.”

Smith was also busy bolstering his squad; Chris Jay recovering from a broken thumb has seen Redditch United goalkeeper Josh Moreton drafted in as cover and debuted against Dudley.

Defender Sam Delaney returns following a spell at Fairfield Villa, after unfortunately getting injured in the first pre-season game at FC Stratford.

Striker Ricardo Richards has returned after scoring 30 goals for Highgate United last season, while defender Scott Smith has signed for Droitwich Spa.

The centre back, who has worked with Smith and Alvechurch and Studley, is struggling for availability because of a change in employment.

Smith said: “Scott is a top player but his new job means he’s working until 7pm and is struggling to make training and play in midweek matches.

“Because of that he’s not really been playing for us but we wish him all the best and would gladly have him back if his circumstances change.

“We’ve also added Josh from Redditch. I get on well with Liam McDonald and he’s said we can have Josh for as long as we need him, as long as his first choice keeper doesn’t get injured.”

Sporting take on Pershore Town at home on Saturday in Midlands Divison One (3pm ko). The game is one of the featured Non-League Day matches and the club is hoping to attract over 500 fans for the game.
