DROITWICH Spa Ladies secured a place in the West Midlands Regional League Cup semi-finals with a comfortable 4-1 victory over Malvern Town Ladies on Sunday.

Having lost to the same opponents the previous week in the Worcestershire County Cup semi final after a penalty shootout, Droitwich were determined to make amends for that defeat.

Manager Ian Fry said: “We completely dominated last week’s match and it was incredibly disappointing to ultimately lose the game and miss out on the County Cup final and the chance to defend the trophy we won last year.

“The girls and I were very focused on making up for that defeat this week, and the girls did just that.”

Spa fell behind to a Michelle Davis free kick but that was Malvern’s solitary attempt on goal as Droitwich dominated the rest of the match.

April Polden then levelled the scores following good work by Lucy Boswell.

Ellie Gerhold fired them ahead before goals for Mel Curnock and Katie Armento.
