BROMSGROVE Swimming Club enjoyed a strong start to the Ross PGL League at Droitwich Leisure Centre.

They took the lead early on in the 60-event gala and didn’t look back as they notched up 21 victories, 19 second places and a host of personal bests.

Matilda Anderson gained the first victory in the 12/U 50m butterfly (37.54s), followed by Madeline Sharpe (11/U 25m breaststroke, 21.67s) and James Maycock (13/14 50m, backstroke 35.23).

There were successes for Joel Maretic (25m freestyle 19.58s), Ben Collett (25m breaststroke 26.30s), Joe Troth (25m backstroke 24.92), Hannah Smith (25m backstroke 22.45) and Eva Tselepis (25m butterfly 25.54).

There were two victories from Liam Wang (10/U 25m butterfly 20.60/25m freestyle) and first places for Connor Bray (10/U 25m backstroke 21.51s) and Ryley Malone-Priest (10/U 25m backstroke 21.91s/25m breaststroke 25.40s).

Adding to the haul of first places were Tristan Gee (13/14 50m freestyle 31.66) and Luke Culwick (10/U 25m Breaststroke 25.13).

The medley relay teams were on form with successes in the 10/U 4x25m medley for Connor Bray, Luke Culwick, Ben Collett and Liam Wang (free).

There were also wins in the 11/U4x25m medley for Michael Bray, Luke Jones, Edward Maycock and Thomas Hepinstall.

Lucy Charles, Mille Ryall , Bromley Arnold and Jasmine Kilmartin were victorious in the 9yr 4 x 25m medley.

The girls cannon freestyle relay was won by Emily Bower, Ellie Mansell, Ryley Malone-Priest, Abigail Salcolmbe, Lucy Charles, Jasmine Kilmarton, Keiva Cheshire, Felicity Gee, Catrin Carter, and Matilda Anderson.

Head coach Matthew Lowe said: “It was a team effort from everyone; coaches, swimmers, helpers and parents all supporting each other. It was really pleasing to see such a high personal best rate, and we’re looking forward to the County Championships where hopefully we can continue to show improvement.”
