ALVECHURCH boss Ian Long urged his players to focus on winning games in a bid to try and keep the pressure on Midlands Premier leaders Hereford.

The Lye Meadow outfit endured a frustrating weekend as their clash at Sporting Khalsa last Saturday was called off because of a waterlogged pitch.

But the Bulls have stretched their lead over Church to 10 points, although they have played two more games than the Worcestershire side.

Long’s troops have embarked on a hectic run of games with four home fixtures in just nine days.

They tackled Brocton last night, take on Bardon Hill on Saturday (3pm kick-off) before entertaining Khalsa next Tuesday and welcoming Long Eaton next Thursday (both 7.45pm kick-offs).

A new date for the Khalsa clash has yet to be set but unless the season is extended, it will have to be squeezed in before April 30.

Long said: “All we can do is keep pushing Hereford as hard as we can and see what happens.

“I would love if it all came down to the last match of the season but we must keep winning to do that.

“If we don’t win the league then it’s important to finish second just in case of the the other teams at step five cannot go up.”

Church sealed some silverware when they lifted the Worcestershire Senior Urn last Wednesday night by defeating derby rivals Bromsgrove Sporting 3-0.

A ruthlessly clinical display at Evesham’s Jubilee Stadium home saw off the Division One title hopefuls.

First-half goals for Mark Smith, who headed home from a corner, and Nick Wright put Church firmly in the driving seat.

After the break, Jordan Nadat bagged a fine strike after combining slickly with Zac Morris and finished off a strong performance.

Manager Ian Long said: “It’s great to get a pot secured but we don’t have time to rest on our laurels, we can look back on what we’ve achieved this season when we’ve finished.”
