BROMSGROVE tennis players Patrick Niedzwiedz and Isaac Bridge produced an ace performance to help Hereford and Worcester progress into the National Under-10 County Cup Finals following a fabulous showing at Stourbridge.

The pair were joined by James Stanford from Droitwich and Jacob Martin of Hereford to compete against a string of rival county players.

They pulled out all stops on the opening day by firstly defeating North Wales 3-1 and then went onto despatch Staffordshire 4-0.

The quartet returned to Stourbridge the following day to face closest rivals South Wales in what was to prove a crunch contest.

At one stage South Wales led 2-1 after the singles but Hereford and Worcester pulled it back to 2-2 following the doubles.

It meant the outcome was to be decided on a doubles shoot-out where Niedzwiedz and Stanford were selected to compete.

They kept their heads after going behind by fighting back to win 13-11 after earlier saving two match points.

It meant Hereford and Worcester were crowned regional champions and they now travel to Sunderland in two weeks time to take part in the National Finals where they will be facing seven other regional winners.

Steve Jones, who is chairman of Bromsgrove Tennis Club claimed: "This was a great result for Hereford and Worcester and we're really proud to have two of the four team members from our club.

" It just shows the strength of our junior section and why our coach James Griffiths was named 'Junior Coach of the Year by the county."

Bromsgrove Tennis Club enjoyed an excellent week with their Men's D team securing a 4-2 win over local rivals Bromsgrove David Lloyd C.

Ian Pidgen made his debut when teaming up with youngster Aaron Oakes to win both of their contests.

Matt Arnold paired up with Chris Hands while Bruce Turner joined forces with Max Feltham and they both won one rubber apiece but lost to the powerful David Lloyd partnership of Bobby Samra and Paul Steele.

All three of the Ladies teams are challenging for top spot in their respective divisions.

The B team blitzed Wall Heath 6-0 in Division Two, while the C team defeated leaders Inkberrow 4-2 in Division Five.

The D team completed a clean sweep when they overcame Fladbury in Division Seven 4-2
