BARNT Green captain Andy Sutton praised his side’s complete display after Saturday’s winning draw against Walmley.

Despite being denied maximum points, the Cherry Hill Road side still managed to take 18 in the Birmingham League Premier.

Batting first, they had made 277-9 in 55 overs, with Tom Banton getting setting them on their way with his first ever 100.

Ed Pollock scored 49, while Luke Radford (25), Josh Poysden (25) and Faisal Shahid (28) also added late runs.

Warwickshire spinner Poysden then wove his magic, taking 5-50, as Walmley were reduced to 165-9.

Dogged Freddie Coleman proved to be the thorn in Green’s side as he struck 75 not out and forged a stubborn tenth-wicket partnership with Shozar Ali as Walmley hung on for a share of the spoils.

Captain Sutton said: “This was one of our most complete displays of the season, even though we didn’t quite get the win I felt we deserved.

“We were excellent in every department and you have to give credit to Freddie and Shozar, who just rode out the game’s final stages. I have said all season that if we have our strongest team available we are a match for anyone in the division.”

Green’s newfound good form will be tested when they welcome leaders Berkswell on Saturday (noon start).

Sutton added: “I was delighted to see Tom Banton score his first century and Ed Pollock definitely has a very big score in him because he’s looking in very good shape.

“Josh is our allocated player from Warwickshire but he makes a big difference when he’s here. Hopefully we’ll be able to put out our strongest side out consistently for the rest of the season and see where that takes us.”
