A STUNNING performance on Sunday afternoon saw Bromsgrove Ladies C team trounce third-placed Bewdley B 6-0 to take maximum points and the title in Division Five.

The team of Steph Armstrong with Beccy Smith, Lorraine Russell with Lisa Rushton and Dilys Thomas with Anne Simper put on an impressive display in their final match of the season winning all rubbers in two sets.

The result means they’ve opened up an unassailable 20 point lead at the top.

The strength of the squad performance is underlined by the statistics.

They have won 80 per cent of all sets played and averaged 12 points per match equivalent to winning 5-1 every time.

With Captain Connie Wedelich on holiday, Simper took over the captaincy for the day.

She said: “We knew we needed a good result today against a team that has played well all season.

“To take it 6-0 just shows how well the squad has gelled. After our promotion last year we were expecting a tough time, but everyone has shown real dedication and fighting spirit when it mattered.”

Bromsgrove also had another 6-0 win as the Men’s C team beat Hallow B on Sunday morning in Division Five.

The highlights were two great battles against the Hallow first pair.

Both Bromsgrove pairs of Tim Wright with John Casey and Tim Roland with Pete Morris were involved in long three set contests, but dug in and emerged victorious.

With the rest of the Hallow team no match for Bromsgrove Aaron Oakes with Trevor Errington, playing together for the first time helped complete the whitewash.

The result leaves Bromsgrove just two points off the promotion spot, with one match remaining.

Unfortunately the Ladies E team were on the wrong end of another 6-0 result when they travelled to play Pershore C in Division Seven.

The pairs of Chris Mitchell with Fay Giles, Cynthia Colley with Di Horton and Alison Douglas with Yvonne Priestman were no match for the strong Pershore team who go top of the division.
