THE British Men’s hockey team’s hopes of winning a medal at the Rio Olympics are hanging by a thread after a damaging 2-1 defeat to Australia on Wednesday night.
Team GB, which includes Bromsgrove’s Dan Fox, face a must win game in their final pool match against Spain tomorrow night (9pm start).
Goals from Aran Zalewski and Jacob Whetton sunk Bobby Crutchley’s. A late Ashley Jackson penalty corner wasn’t enough to save a point leaving GB with a nervy final match to come. The team started with a 4-1 loss to Belgium and then drew 2-2 against New Zealand.
They recorded their first win of the Games by thrashing Brazil 9-1 but defeat to Australia leaves them fifth in Pool A.
