BROMSGROVE Rugby Club's head coach Dan Protherough is convinced it's only a matter of time before his side start hitting a winning streak.

They came agonisingly close to recording their first win when losing out to Cornish side Launceston in their latest game 22-18.

Bromsgrove were always facing an uphill battle after they had Chris McGregor sent off for throwing an alleged punch after just three minutes.

Protherough said: "I've had chance to watch the video and I didn't think it was a red card offence. It was a swinging arm and I thought sending Chris off was harsh to say the least.

"Later in the game, Launceston had a player yellow carded for what was a blatant shoulder charge off the ball.

"Our player was completely flattened and wiped out, yet Launceston get yellow and we get red.

"The referee set the bar early with the red card and in my mind, he didn't follow it through. It's a critical decision and the difference between winning and losing.

"We played really well with 14 men and matched Launceston up front. We showed lots of resilience and that's why I think a win isn't far away. If we win one, we'll win more."

Bromsgrove were able to put their feet up this week having received a bye in the North Midlands Cup.

But they return to action this Saturday when they entertain top of the table Camborne at Finstall Park (3pm).

It's a classic top verses bottom confrontation and Protherough claimed: "We've been able to train flat out this week and that has given us extra intensity to our play. We must make show, if we take the lead that we hang onto it instead of giving it away too easily, which we've been doing so far this season.

"We must be ready to weather the storm that Camborne will create as they have won all six of their league games to date and that alone suggests they are a very decent side.

"We must be prepared to stamp our authority on the game and keep believing because we are that close to our first victory now."
