CHAIRMAN Kevin Jenkins admits Worcester Raiders “owe” Droitwich Spa “one” in Saturday’s Worcestershire FA Junior Cup semi-final at King George’s Playing Fields (2pm).

Raiders will be going all out for revenge after being pipped 3-2 in last season’s final when James Lemon’s 98th-minute penalty won the trophy at Pershore Town.

Spa joint-manager Wayne Oliver has described the clash as “the biggest game of the weekend in Worcestershire” and urged people from the town to support the club.

Raiders warmed up for the last-four battle with an emphatic 5-1 victory over St Martins in West Midlands League Division One last Saturday.

The comprehensive triumph highlighted Raiders’ ability to score goals from midfield with Matthew Tyler bagging a hat-trick and Anthony Smith and Joey Haines also on target.

Raiders are now unbeaten in five matches as they try to chase down Division One leaders Hereford Lads Club.

Jenkins said: “We are quietly confident we can avenge the loss to Droitwich in last season’s final and we definitely owe them one after that.

“Beating St Martins was the perfect way to set up this weekend’s clash. We are settling down and working towards the manager’s aim of trying to play good, attacking football while maintaining a strong defence.

“We have only lost one game this season against Wrens Nest and that was because a couple of our lads got lost on the way to Dudley and we ended up short.”

Droitwich are also in excellent form and climbed to the top of Midland League Division Two after slaughtering Sutton United 10-1 for the biggest win in their 32-year history.

Nick Seabourne fired in six goals, while Brad Burgess, Luke Molloy (2) and Matty Hunt were also on target for the Saltmen.

“We are looking forward to this weekend,” said Oliver.

“Raiders are a good side with some good players and it will be a challenge for us.

“We played them in the final last season and we just got home in a tight contest. We are particularly looking forward to seeing how much the two sides have developed since we last met.

“We think it’s the biggest game of the weekend in Worcestershire and hopefully people will put off their Christmas shopping for a day and come along to support us.”

Raiders thrashed Malvern Town Reserves 4-0 in the first round before dispatching Inkberrow 3-0 in the quarter-finals.

Spa hammered Fairfield Villa 5-0 in their opener and defeated Welland 2-1 in the last eight.

Oliver said: “James Lemon has made a bit of a name for himself since he joined Droitwich but I think we showed last Saturday we can play well without him.

“James and Keiran Whitehead are available after missing last weekend’s match but we are still without Jimmy Halsall, who has a long-term injury.

“We have appealed on the website and on Facebook for people to come out to support us because we think it will be a competitive game between two decent sides.”

Montpellier host Bewdley Town Reserves in the other semi with the final scheduled for April 1 next year.
