TABLE topping Alvechurch saw their 11 match winning spree brought to an abrupt halt at Boldmere St Michaels this week.

The Church crashed 3-0 after they struggled to adapt with Boldmere's new synthetic pitch.

Church boss Ian Long said: "We tried to play as though we were Barcelona and over elaborated with the ball. We just didn't play the conditions right and didn't move the ball forward quickly enough. As a result, we got what we deserved, which was nothing."

Church even missed a penalty just before half time when Danny Dubidat failed to convert, although most of the damage had been done by then.

Long added: "Had we got it back to 3-1 by half time, then we would have had half a chance, especially as Connor Deards missed two good chances.

"But take nothing away from Boldmere who could have won by more as they hit the woodwork twice as well."

Long will be looking for an immediate response when they host Highgate United at Lye Meadow on Boxing Day (3pm kick off).

As a result of the Boldmere result, Long has arranged a friendly with Tipton Town in an effort to get the defeat out of their system.

The Church also entertain Quorn on New Year's Eve before travelling to local rivals Tividale on January 2.

Long hopes to have key players Jamie Spencer and Tom Turton back available but could be in danger of losing his former Hereford central defender Jamie Willetts who is considering an offer from Aberystwyth Town.
