BROMSGROVE and Redditch runners were well to the fore at the Combined Warwickshire and Worcestershire cross country championships which took place at Leamington's Newbold Comyn.

Pride of place went to Josh Robbins who raced home to win the under-13 boys race finishing 12 seconds ahead of second placed Harry Faizey from Solihull and Small Heath.

Joe Hamilton just missed out on top spot in the under-15 boys race when beaten into second spot by Leamington's Cian McKeaney, just seven seconds separated the pair at the line.

Joe Smith snapped up third place in the senior men and masters race which attracted a field of well-over 3,000 runners.

Smith clocked 35mins 56secs for his bronze medal position but was adrift of impressive winner Jack Gray from the BRAT Club who was timed at 34mins 33secs.

Connor Smith claimed another second placing in the under-17 to 20 men's event, clocking 21mins 46secs when he chased home winner Shaun Evans of Royal Sutton Coldfield who came home in 21mins 14secs.

Natalie Hatfield proved the pick of Bromsgrove and Redditch runners in the under-13 girls race by finishing in sixth spot.
