ALVECHURCH boss Ian Long is waiting to access the extent of a hamstring injury suffered by top marksman Josh March during Saturday's 2-2 draw at Derbyshire side Heanor Town.

March pulled up after 15 minutes with the injury and had to be replaced by substitute Connor Deards.

An anxious Long admitted: "It's a big blow. As a result, we were second best throughout the first half and were losing 2-0 at half time.

"I used all of my substitutes at the break bringing on Ryan Winwood and Jack Cresswell. It made a difference. I've been calling for more from my players on the bench and they responded.

"Heanor are one of the best sides we've played this season but title rivals Lye Town and Westfield still have to go there, so we must wait and see how good the point we've taken is worth."

Second half goals from Danny Dubidat and Ryan Edmunds sealed Church a share of the points.

Former Church striker Karl Edwards looks set for a return to Lye Meadow following a spell at rivals Walsall Wood this season.

Edwards previously played under Long at both Tipton Town and Tividale.

Long added: "Karl has a knack of coming on and scoring important goals, but we have to assess his fitness first."

But Church are in danger of losing Jamie Spencer who is subject of a seven day approach from Southern League Premier side Stratford Town.

Top of the table Church travel to AFC Wulfrunians this Saturday.
