BROMSGROVE Sporting will waste little time in appealing against the red card issued to Liam Spink during the final stages of last Saturday's 4-1 win over Chelmsley Town.

Spink saw red following an altercation over a throw-in late in the game and will miss next weekend's historic FA Vase quarter final game against Buckland Athletic as a result.

Sporting manager Paul Smith said: "I spoke with the referee after the game and he was adamant that Liam had struck a Chelmsley player in the face.

"But we've since studied the video of the game and there is clear evidence that Liam didn't strike the player . We will appeal immediately to try and get the red card rescinded.

"Liam is a very important player for us and it would be a shame if he missed the FA Vase game in such circumstances."

Smith was just grateful to get through the Chelmsley game with another three points in the bag which keeps the Sporting juggernaut rolling along.

They have now gone 22 league games without defeat this season and are the only unbeaten non-league side from level one to six.

Smith added: "I was a bit concerned the Chelmsley game might develop into some like after the Lord Mayor's Show following the FA Vase victory over Bristol Manor Farm, so it was important to bring the players back down to earth.

"We were able to rest Ali Ahmed and Robbie Bunn, who have both been carrying knocks but on the downside, Luke Shorthouse has picked up a nasty ankle injury.

"Chelmsley play on Coleshill Town's 3G pitch and Smith said: " I know that artificial pitches help bring money into the club, but it truth, I'm not a big fan of them.

"As a result, it led to a dis-jointed game at times, but I look upon it as another game ticked off"

Busy Smith has already had Vase opponents Buckland watched and planned to see them for himself this week, which will involve a six-hour round trip to deepest Devon.

Smith revealed: "I know that Buckland are already getting excited about the game on February 19 and have ordered 250 tickets for themselves. They can't comprehend that we could get a crowd of around 3,000.

"It is unbelievable the amount of support we're getting. We're expecting supporters to turn out in their droves and it's for games like this that make you realise just why we are doing this job."

TICKETS for the Vase game go on sale to sponsors and season ticket holders tonight (Wednesday) in the Rouslers bar from 7pm to 10pm.

At the same time Sporting's under-18s will be playing Malvern Town in the Worcestershire County Youth Cup quarter finals.

Tickets go on general sale from Thursday in the bar, which is open every night except Sunday, again from 7pm until 10pm.

Several Sporting players will be available to speak with supporters after training on Thursday from around 8.30pm onwards.
