MORE than 30 anglers turned out for the Droitwich Spa open contest on the canal at Porters Mill with local rod Pete Chance winning narrowly.

He used a bread punch approach across to the far bank reed bed on peg 31 for skimmers and small pinkie-caught perch weighing 4lb 2oz 10dr.

Swan AC’s Paul Wilson took a similar catch from peg 29 of 3-13-6 for second.

Les Sanders came third from peg 12 with 3-8 and fourth was Greenman star Rich Brewer with 3-1-14 off peg 22A.

Section prizes went to Jerry Bartlett, Dennis Evans, Keith Hunt and Ken Legge.

There will be a Spa AC open on March 4 on the Worcester canal at Stoke Works.

Further up the Droitwich canal long-time leaders Sue Jaques and Lee Davey (Swan AC) won the winter pairs final with 26 points.

Second were Droitwich duo Clive Duggan and Wayne Sharpe on 39 ahead of Tim Biddle and Nick Vaughan (Alans Tackle) on 42 and Bill Biddle and Mike Higginbotham (Swan AC) on 44.

The top section individual prize went to Pershore’s John Bird with 5-10 of skimmers on red maggot.

The bottom section was won by Kane Woodfield with 6-0 of perch.

The Friday silver fish match on Willow Farm Fishery’s Island pool went to organiser Dave Warren with 6-15 of skimmers and small roach on pinkie and groundbait at nine metres from peg seven.

Second from the opposite bank was Bill Hartland with roach on maggot to 6-3, while third came Nigel Bayliss with 5-14.
