BROMSGROVE Sporting boss Paul Smith believes he'll have no problems keeping his player's feet on the ground following their FA Vase quarter-final triumph over Buckland Athletic this week.

Smith is well aware his players must focus all their attention on trying to win promotion from Midland League Division One this season and try to put any thoughts of their semi-final clash with Cleethorpes to the back of their minds.

Sporting remain unbeaten in the league this season and Smith insisted: "I've got a well grounded group of players who are doing everything they need to do at the moment. I've got no complaints.

"If you'd asked me at the start of the season, I would have said promotion was the priority and I'd probably say the same now.

"But if you were to ask the players, I think they've got the word 'Wembley' on their minds.

"I've got to the point where I'm getting greedy. I want both now so it's full steam ahead."

Smith confirmed he would be shuffling the pack with his players in forthcoming fixtures starting with this week's Smedley Crook Cup quarter-final with Barnt Green Spartak before taking on Heath Hayes this Saturday in the league.

The Sporting boss added: "It will be good to get back to the nitty-gritty. I've got a squad of 20 players and I intend to use them. There's also a couple of youngsters I want to have a look at so I suspect there will be quite a few changes."

Smith couldn't hide his delight that Sporting had been drawn against Cleethorpes in the semi-finals but added: "At this stage of the competition, it doesn't really matter who you get, they're all going to be really hard sides to beat.

"We are the only step six side left in the competition, so we'll be considered underdogs, but we've nothing to lose.

"It would have been nice as far as the Midland League is concerned had we been drawn against Coleshill Town, but they play on a plastic pitch, which I've never been a fan of.

"I will go and watch Cleethorpes play next Wednesday - I've already got my hotel booked up.

"I've also got a friend who will watch them on Saturday. He's watched our opponents for the past four rounds and things have worked out well so far."

Smith must also sort out his goalkeeping situation.

He revealed making a mad dash trip to sign Nathan Vaughan in time following a hectic journey to Tamworth Services and admitted: "I must have broken the speed limit on several occasions.

"Nathan aggravated an old injury during the game against Buckland and he'll be having extensive treatment at the club.

"His signing followed the fact Chris Jay pulled out of training on Thursday after a reaction to his injury.

"I can't play Kidderminster Harriers loanee John Brown because he's cup-tied.

"But I've also got Ryan Price available. He's not attached to any club at the moment because of work commitments but he turned out for Chasetown this week.

"It's all been a bit of nightmare."
