THE golden arm of Gareth Williams is set to grace Bromsgrove Cricket Club this coming season.

Experienced seam bowler Williams who has enjoyed prolific success in the Birmingham League with the likes of Harborne and Halesowen has arrived at St Godwalds Park from previous club Kidderminster.

"Gareth will bring a wise and experienced head into the changing room," said long-serving Bromsgrove skipper Mark Evenson who is set to lead the side for the 11th successive season.

Williams has built a formidable reputation as one of the best Birmingham League strike bowlers of his generation, but he's likely to operate as first change for Bromsgrove who has also recruited new ball bowler Jack Taylor from Worcester side Old Elizabethans.

Taylor is likely to open the bowling attack with Alex Wilkinson as Bromsgrove look to hit the ground running this season.

James Ganderton has returned to boost Bromsgrove's batting having taken a season out through work commitments, while Deon Patel, who is the son of Kish Patel, has arrived from Halesowen and can operate as a middle order bat and leg spin bowler.

With the likes of Ashley Newdick, Jayden Levitt and Worcestershire's Alexei Kervezee set to open the batting, Evenson believes the time has arrived for Bromsgrove to start delivering.

He added: "We've finished 6th, 7th and 8th in the past three seasons and now the time is right for us to mount a better challenge.

"We open with the 50 overs format, something which suits us well. Division One will prove a tough division, as it always is and we have to make sure Bromsgrove become a tough side to beat.

"The fact we can put Alexie Kervezee's name on the team sheet again gives everyone a massive boost.

"But this season, I'm looking to some of the younger players to step up to the plate."
