BROMSGROVE suffered yet another narrow setback when losing out 21-17 to sixth placed Brixham in National League Three South West.

Having led 17-10 in the second half, Bromsgrove were guilty of squandering missed chances before Brixham battled back in the closing stages to snatch victory.

Head Coach Dan Protherough said: "Brixham had a really big pack which was on average two stone heavier per man and they gradually wore us down as the game progressed.

"We missed two really good chances to score in the first half when we were on top - but then, that's been the story of our season.

"Again we were the better side for much of the game but Brixham overpowered us at the end as we ran out of steam."

Loyal full back Jon Critchlow bagged Bromsgrove's opening try on his final home appearance before retirement which he also converted and then added a penalty as the sides reached half time level pegging at 10-10 A second try from outside centre Sam Bastock, which Critchlow improved upon put Bromsgrove back in charge before Brixham responded with another try and two penalties.

Protherough used the game to parade three 18-year-olds in his pack, flankers Matt Sprigg and Lawrence Weston while Ethan Priest switched from No.8 to play prop, the trio suggesting a promising future for the Finstall Park side.

Bromsgrove bring down the curtain on this season with a trip to closest rivals Lydney in the Forest of Dean - a mere 60 miles away, on April 22.
