BROMSGROVE Tennis Clubs teams played local rivals Droitwich in division 9E and Bromsgrove F went top of the table with a convincing 5-1 win against Droitwich F.

Juniors Tom Round with Isaac Bridge were in great form opening with a 6-0, 6-0 win and finishing off beating the Droitwich first pair 7-5, 6-2.

On form veteran Brian Barton teamed up with Mark Wilson to win 6-2, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-2.

A below par opening from Rob Kindon and Charlie Tait saw them go down to the opposition first pair but they bounced back with a convincing 6-1,6-3 win in their second match.

Captain Kindon said: "It’s tight between three teams at the top at this halfway stage, but if we keep this form up we’ll be pushing for promotion."

Bromsgrove G travelled to Droitwich to take on their E team.

Two up-and-coming juniors, Cameron Owen and Isaac Bridge made their senior team débuts and put in impressive performances.

Owen teamed up with Martin German at first pair and after losing against their opposite pair stormed back with a 6-3, 6-2 win in their second rubber.

Perry partnered Giles Hyder and they started with a convincing 6-3. 6-3 win.

Their second encounter was tougher, but after dropping the opening set 2-6 fought back well to win the next 6-4, 6-1. Joe Finn also played his first match and partnered John Harrop.

Despite fighting hard they went down in both their rubbers.

This meant the final score was 3-3 but Droitwich scraped home 7-6 on sets. Captain Martin German said: "With half the team making their first appearance it was a good result and I’m sure the experience will pay dividends later in the season."

Sunday saw the Ladies C take on Inkberrow in division 4E and complete a 6-0 win.

With Inkberrow arriving a pair short the odds were stacked in Bromsgrove’s favour.

But Inkberrow put them to the test with three rubbers going to a third set.

Digging deep each Bromsgrove pair of Beccy Smith with Steph Armstrong, Anne Simper with Connie Wedelich and Lorraine Russell with Lisa Rushton came out on top to gain valuable points. The win lifts them out of the relegation zone in a tough division following promotion last year.

In division 7E the Ladies E team took on leaders David Lloyd Bromsgrove C.

Despite some close matches and a number of tie breaks David Lloyd showed why they are top as they won.
