BROMSGROVE Tennis Club's open doubles competition was hailed a huge success with a record number of entries making the event a massive hit.

Competitors came from all over the county and further afield including players from Ludlow and Bridgnorth.

The early rounds were played on a league format with the top four scores going through to the next stage.

This proved testing ffor scorer Richard Perrins as quite a number of pairs were separated by just one or two games.

Eventually Worcester couple Angie Street and Jan Mason made it through to the final to face Bromsgrove's own Lorraine Russell and Beccy Smith.

This was a great effort from the Bromsgrove pair who normally play their tennis for the C team in Division Four.

By contrast Angie Street and Jan Mason play in Division One for Worcester and their class soon showed as they went onto take the top prize.

Organiser Sue Forest praised everyone who helped make the tournament such a success.

She said: "We're already planning next year's event and with the great feedback we've received, we're hoping the competition will attract even more players."
