BROMSGROVE cruised to a compelling seven wicket win over second placed Tamworth to remain well within striking distance of Birmingham League Division One leaders Bridgnorth.

Tamworth were tumbled out for a modest 132 before Bromsgrove knocked off the required runs to reach a winning 135 for three in just 26 overs.

But Bromsgrove skipper Mark Evenson admitted: "It was a massive toss to win, because the wicket was extremely condusive to seam bowling.

"We made the most of conditions and had Tamworth in trouble right from the start."

The golden arm of Gareth Williams made an immediate impact as he claimed four for 23 off 15 overs before the left arm spin from Ashley Newfield polished off the Tamworth innings by taking four for 13 from 8.2 overs.

Bromsgrove didn't have matters all their own way when they replied and soon slumped to 34 for three.

But that only heralded the arrival at the crease of Alexie Kervezee who made light of the conditions to crack a boundary laden 71 not out which contained nine fours and three sixes.

Lewis Cordez kept Kervezee company with 27 not out as the pair shared an unbeaten partnership of 101 for the fourth wicket.

Evenson added: "Alexie made it all look so easy and just took the game away from Tamworth.

"I don't think Alexie is doing a great deal at the moment following his release from Worcestershire.

"He's had the offer of a couple of games from Derbyshire, but I don't think there's anything else at the moment, which is great for us!
