ED Pollock proved the toast of Barnt Green this week after plundering 66 runs for Birmingham in the NatWest T20 Blast against Derbyshire on Sunday.

It was Pollock's first appearence in the T20 Blast and he took his opportunity by storm by opening the batting and sharing a 100 first wicket partnership with another former Barnt Green favourite Sam Hain.

Pollock is one of several Barnt Green products now plying their trade at county level and skipper Andy Sutton paid tribute to him and said: "It's great to see some of the club's youngsters getting their chance at county level.

"Ed was originally at Worcestershire's Academy but didn't get offered a contract.

"He went off to university but continued to do well for Barnt Green and came to Warwickshire's attention.

"We've also got Matt Lamb at Warwickshire while Tom Banton is with Somerset.

"In addition to that, Josh Poysden came to us while on trial at Warwickshire.

"He'd previously been at Sussex, but wasn't offered anything there. Then Warwickshire offered him a contract.

"It's good to know that Barnt Green have given these players an opportunity."

Barnt Green found themselves beaten by the weather when they travelled to Kenilworth Wardens in the Birmingham League Premier.

Ed Pollock paved the way for his Birmingham debut by scoring 55 while operner Jamie Harrison hit 30.

But it was Tom Brown who took the batting plaudits by scoring 70 off 91 balls before rain arrived with the score on 201 for four.

The Green travel to top of the table Knowle and Dorridge this Saturday and Sutton insisted: "It's the start of a three game spell which will decide our season.

"It's followed by games against Ombersley and Berkswell. How we perform in those games will dictate where we finish."
