DROITWICH women's B team moved into top spot in Herefordshire and Worcestershire Summer Doubles Tennis League Division Three East following two victories.

The first was an impressive 4-2 win over Old Hill when the mother-and-daughter duo of Margaret and Kate Hughes won 6-3, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0 victories.

Heather Fellows and Sue Webber triumphed 6-3, 6-1 and lost 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 while Christine Carr and Karen Dobson enjoyed a 6-3, 7-5 victory but also fell in straight sets.

Spa then beat Manor Park B 4-2 at home with wins for Kate and Margaret Hughes 6-0, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-1, Linda Price and Lydia Walker-Cox 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 and Webber and Carr 7-6, 7-5.

Webber and Carr also lost 6-4, 6-1 while Price and Walker-Cox fell 6-2, 6-4.

The C team remained second in Division Six East following a losing draw at Pershore C.

Chris Sellers and Clare Evans lost 6-4, 6-1 before winning 6-2, 7-5.

Liz French and Diane Owen fell 6-2, 6-4 before recovering 6-4, 6-2.

Ishbel Crossley and Elizabeth Fielden won 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 before going down 6-1, 6-3.

The E team lost a gripping relegation battle 4-2 to Bewdley D in Division Seven East.

Joy Baker and Helen Whiteside won 7-5, 6-4 but then lost 6-4, 6-4.

Shona Atherton and Bridget Gill triumphed 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 before going down 2-6, 6-0, 6-2.

Sue Brice and Karen Latham lost 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 and 7-5, 6-4.

Droitwich men’s E team picked up a winning draw at Stourport C in Division Nine East.

The pair of Richard Probyn-Skinner and Nigel Hughes crucially triumphed 6-3, 6-3 and 6-3, 6-4.

Jonathan Carter and debutant Scott Gregory won 7-5, 6-3 before a 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 defeat in their second match.

Mark Venables and Phil Woodhouse lost 7-5, 6-0 and 7-5, 2-6, 7-6.

Spa's mixed C team secured a winning draw at Wall Heath in Division Five East.

Nick King and Webber won 6-2, 6-3 and 7-5, 7-5 to claim the points as Neil Bates and Carr lost 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 and in straight sets.
