DROITWICH Spa opened their 2017-18 campaign with a 5-1 victory at Bloxwich Town in the Les James Challenge Cup first round.

Town had knocked Spa out of the competition last year but the visitors got their revenge.

It did not take long to break the deadlock when Nick Seabourne latched onto a long ball and slotted into an empty net.

Good work down the right from Curtis Townley and Brad Burgess then sent Seabourne away and his low cross was slammed home by James Lemon.

Spa kicked down the slope in the second half and Haydn Morris got on the scoresheet after Lemon unselfishly teed him up.

Morris added his second as Andy Crowther’s free-kick from the left was nodded into the winger’s path by Seabourne.

Spa added a fifth as substitute Macauley Finch's shot was saved and Lemon easily netted from close range.

The only sour point was Bloxwich’s late consolation goal from Ryan Timmins.

Spa go into tomorrow night's Midland League Division Two opener against Pelsall Villa in confident mood at their new temporary home of Stourport Swifts (7.45pm).

Droitwich then visit Coton Green on Saturday (3pm).
