DROITWICH Amateur Boxing Academy's Sian O'Toole struck gold on the international stage for the first time on her debut for GB Boxing.

The 18-year-old won the 57kg category at the International Silesian Women's Tournament in Gliwice, Poland, after a points victory against Italian Giordana Sorrentino in the final.

In her semi-final O'Toole silenced the home crowd with victory over a Polish fighter before she outboxed Sorrentino who had eliminated the European champion en route to the final.

Earlier this summer the Droitwich youngster travelled to Bulgaria to represent England in the European Championships.

Her latest tournament success cements her position as the country's number one at her weight category.

"Sian enjoyed an amazing week in Poland representing GB and getting paid for the privilege so coming away with the gold medal really was the icing on the cake," said her coach Jayson Doyle.

"She's now spending alternative weeks training with GB Boxing in Sheffield and with us ahead of next month's selection camp for the World Championships in India in November.

"On her current form I see no reason why Sian won't be on the plane to India and on the podium when she gets there."
