BROMSGROVE Sporting boss Paul Smith believes their supporters can play a huge part in their promotion push this season.

A crowd approaching the 800 mark watched Sporting pull off a compelling 2-0 win over Lye Town this week.

First half goals from Wade Malley and skipper Craig Jones, who netted on the stroke of half time sealed the points.

It could have been more, especially as Lye Town goalkeeper Charlie Price pulled off a top class save to keep out Jason Cowley.

The result takes Sporting up to second spot, three points behind early season leaders Coleshill Town but with a game in hand and Smith said: "The support we received has been nothing short of brilliant.

"To get that number of supporters against Lye is phenomenal, but it's because of what the players are doing on the pitch.

"If we keep playing well, then the supporters will keep coming and we want to continue giving them something to cheer.

"As a result, it's a great place to be around at the moment.

"We must have taken between 150 to 200 supporters to Coventry United last week and I expect a similar number when we head to South Normanton Athletic this week.

"We've already got a couple of supporters coaches booked and I suggest that anyone who wants to go, should contact the club".

Smith couldn't hide his delight over the manner in which Sporting got the better of Lye Town.

He said: "It was a very convincing win against a side who have similar title aspirations to ourselves this season. We were head and shoulders better than Lye and we kept another clean sheet in the process.

"What makes it all the more impressive was the fact we were missing the likes of Daniel Morris, Max Loveridge, Liam Spink and Joe Ward, who are all high calibre players."
