KAZOKU-Kan Judo Club head coach Rob Alloway is on the road to success.

He bagged bronze at the British Masters Championships in Cardiff in the under 66kg 35 to 40 year old category.

Alloway came up against an opponent from Hackney in a close first contest.

Neither could score in normal time so the battle went to golden score where the Droitwich man eventually won.

Alloway lost his second match to an opponent from Bishops Stortford but finished second in his pool.

In the semi-final, he was up against the eventual gold medallist from Newburn and lost but collected a bronze for his efforts.

Alloway said: “This was a good result for myself in a very strong event.

"All the best players in the country were here and a bronze medal is excellent.

"After this result I hopefully will be selected to represent Great Britain at the European Veterans Championships in Glasgow next year where I will be competing in a new age band.”

At the British Judo Association Centre of Excellence in Walsall, Alloway represented Kidderminster's Samurai Judo Club at the Bev Price Team Championships with two other black belts on his team.

They won their first two team contests 2-1 against teams from Erdington and Kangei from Basildon to reach the knockout stages.

After a bye in the first round, they faced another Samurai team in the semi-final but lost 2-1.

In the bronze play-off against another Erdington group, Samurai won all of their fights to earn medals.

At the Samurai Masters in the 30 to 40 year old under 66kg group, Alloway won all of his contests, including a convincing victory against an opponent from Lakeside by hold down in the final, to earn gold.
