DROITWICH Spa Football Club have re-signed attacking midfielder and fans' favourite James Ward for their first addition of 2018.

It will be Ward's third spell at the club over the course of five years.

He returns after a successful spell at Alcester Town where he had notched 13 goals in 15 starts this season alongside a fine record in Sunday football.

Last term, Ward had spells at Barnt Green Spartak and Fairfield Villa after starting the season at Spa and he previously had been the club's leading scorer under Colin Rudge.

Joint Spa managers Mark Owen and Wayne Oliver signed Ward in time for last Saturday's home clash with Bloxwich Town at Stourport's Walshes Meadow.

But after a morning pitch inspection the Total Motion Midland League Division Two fixture was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The game will be rearranged at a later date.

Ninth-placed Spa visit Feckenham at Studley Sports and Social Club in the Worcestershire FA Saturday Junior Cup semi-finals this weekend (2pm).

Meanwhile, Droitwich Spa Boys and Girls Football Club lost 5-4 on penalties after drawing 1-1 at home to Coleshill Town in the Midland League Under 21 Challenge Bowl quarter-finals.

Town started strongly in tricky conditions and dominated possession in the first half but Spa defended well.

Just before half-time, Spa failed to clear and at the second time of asking the returning cross was delivered on to the head of the onrushing Coleshill forward to make it 1-0.

Spa were stronger in the second half and James Woods went close before Callum Morris levelled 20 minutes from time following Elliot Newton's through-ball.

But Spa, who visit Heath Hayes in the West Division on Saturday, lost on sudden-death spot-kicks.
