THERE was a century recorded at Droitwich Spa Cricket Club despite the weekend being a washout.

All three senior fixtures were rained off but there was brighter news as the club topped the 100-mark with their intake for All Stars Cricket for five to eight year olds.

It is the second highest figure in the UK and follows last year’s successful launch when 72 children took part at the St Peter’s Fields club.

A total of 101 are signed up for the fun sessions which start next month and run for eight weeks.

“All Stars was a great success last year, so much so that 30 children stayed on for the rest of the summer to attend our regular junior training sessions,” said Mike Wallis, Spa’s head of junior cricket.

“We’re now hoping the weather stays fair so we can deliver another fun programme and attract even more young cricketers to the sport and our club at a time when we’re developing some exciting plans for the future.”

Seniors are still being sought for the four Saturday teams and youngsters are welcome to join any of the 13 boys’ and girls’ sides.

On Saturday, the firsts travel to Oldswinford whilst the seconds host Worcester.

The thirds attempt to get their league campaign under way at home to Old Hill with the fourths in action for the first time in a Knockout Cup clash at Worcester Nomads.
