DROITWICH Amateur Boxing Club’s Joe Doyle aims to give his old man a Father’s Day to remember in Worcester on Sunday.

Doyle, 15, is being trained by his dad Jayson for a bout against British number one, Scottish national champion and Tri-Nations gold medallist Lennon Mulligan.

Dubbed The Golden Boy, Doyle was recently selected for the England Talent Programme and will be part of the Central All Stars squad that takes on a Great Britain Select team in front of an anticipated 600-strong crowd at Bishop Perowne College.

Also on the bill of Great Britain is Campbell Hatton, son of former light-welterweight world champion Ricky Hatton.

“It’s going to be a fantastic event with some of the best young boxers in Britain on show,” said Jayson.

“Joe is relishing the prospect of taking on a boxer who is ranked as the British number one but also having the opportunity to fight in his home county on an outstanding card in front of a local crowd for the first time in three years.

“He is definitely up for it, in excellent shape and perfectly prepared having spent last weekend in Essex on an England training camp.”
