CHADDESLEY Corbett got the Royal seal of approval on Sunday, when the Queen’s grand-daughter Zara Phillips watched Aubrey de Vere gallop to victory in the Division One Maiden race at the Albrighton point-to-point event.

The 2012 Olympic hopeful trains horses as well as competes and was delighted to see her five-year-old ex-Irish gelding taste victory.

“He’s a lovely horse and works well at home. He feels special but they don’t always prove that on the course, so it’s nice to be vindicated,” said Phillips.

This wasn’t the only excitement as the Men’s and Ladies’ Opens both produced top-quality fields.

Men’s winner My Flora was in impressive form, making mincemeat of Findlays Find.

The Ladies Open produced an exciting finish with three horses in with a chance at the death.

Himbleton’s Angela Rucker’s mount Sagalyrique had the benefit of running the rail to assist him and he began to eat into Lady Myfanwy’s advantage on the flat and finally got his head in front 20 yards from home.

The Rucker’s were back in the winner’s enclosure after My Dad’s Horse’s success in the Restricted.

The Novice Riders went to Phillip Rowley’s Crazy Eyes.
