Dolphins shine at County Championships

DROITWICH Dolphins Swimming Club won a bumper crop of medals at the Worcester County and Age Group Championships.

Nineteen Droitwich swimmers helped to bring home 30 medals, 66 top six places, 17 club records and more than 75 personal bests.

Ruth Hadley, 14, became girls age group champion in the 50m butterfly and 100 Individual medley as well as winning four silvers and two bronzes.

She also broke 14 club records and achieved five Midlands regional qualifying times.

To put the icing on the cake, Hadley secured a place in the 100m individual medley County Championship final, an incredible achievement considering her age.

She swam a brilliant race and secured a bronze medal to become the fastest Junior in the event at this year’s championship.

Aaron Biddle and Joe Essery both swam very well during the championships. Biddle, 13, secured gold in the 800m freestyle as well as five silvers and a bronze.

Essery swam to silver in the 800m freestyle and got an incredible seven bronze medals in the 12-year-old age group. He also swan PBs in all his 12 races despite suffering an injury.

There were bronze medals for Anthony Redfern, 15, in the 100m freestyle and backstroke, Thomas Dean, 12, in the 800m and 1500m freestyles and Sam Cave, 14, in the 800m freestyle.

Redfern followed Hadley in securing a place in the 100m backstroke championship final and swam a great race coming home in fifth place.

Tim Quiney, 12, just missed out on the medals, but swam a very good championship achieving 11 personal bests out of his 12 swims.
