Green’s Brown feeling blue after more rain
5:00pm Wednesday 11th July 2012 in Local
BARNT Green skipper Dougie Brown believes the weather has played havoc with his side after another weekend washout.
The Cherry Hill Road outfit were left frustrated after their Birmingham League clash at Wellington was abandoned following Friday’s torrential rain.
Even worse, the Kingfisher Beer Cup clash at Essex-outfit Brentwood was also cancelled on Saturday, with the fifth-round encounter postponed until this Sunday (1pm start).
The double abandonment has been a running feature of a soggy season, where record rainfall has hit every club team in the country.
Brown admits Barnt Green are not the only ones disrupted by the weather, which has seen games more often than not reduced when they have went ahead, as the team tries to find some consistency in a summer of frustration.
He said: “It’s the same for every team in the league but we’re finding it very hard to get into a rhythm.
“We’re only playing intermittently and we’ve not been able to train because of the weather, so it’s not been easy at all.
“If you’re playing well then you’re OK but if you’re a bit inconsistent you want to be playing as much as possible.”
Green will be hoping that the weather is kinder this weekend as they make the trip to Worcestershire rivals Kidderminster Victoria (noon start), who themselves have struggled form.
With Richard Wilkinson unavailable, Jack Williams is set to come back into the side.
Brown believes Saturday’s opponents will be a test with Worcestershire trio Ben Cox, Matt Pardoe and Neil Pinner on their books but he believes Green’s superior record will play a part.
He said: “Our record against Kidderminster is good — we have to take confidence from that.
“They’ve three county players and have useful players but we’ll be confident if the game goes ahead.”
