Revenge is sweet for Fairfield
10:30am Thursday 27th September 2012 in Local
Action from Fairfield Villa’s 2-1 win over Knowle.
FAIRFIELD Villa turned the tables on rivals Knowle by knocking them out of the Les James Cup.
Villa had recently suffered a 3-0 reverse from Knowle in a Midland Combination Division One game but made no mistake second time around with a 2-1 triumph.
Andy Nicol put Villa ahead with Pete Jenvey adding the second following superb play from Stuart Hall, who held the ball up before releasing Jenvey.
Villa boss Paul Oakes enthused: “It was pleasing to see just how much we’ve improved and progressed since playing Knowle the first time.
“Although it was only 2-1, it was a comfortable win. We gifted them their goal with another bad lapse in concentration. “If we can stamp that out and tighten up, we should do OK this season.”
Fairfield face a trip to Hampton for a Midland Combination Division One game on Saturday where Oakes will be missing several key players.
Adam Pillinger and Andy Pike remain injured while Keelan McNally, Jenvey and Craig Cosgrove are all unavailable.
However, Oakes has boosted his ranks by signing former Bromsgrove Sporting player Leon Mooney.
There is also a chance that last season’s leading goalscorer Ryan Sproston will feature at some stage having been absent for several months with a knee injury.
