SOUTH African centre Wynand Olivier has signed a new deal at Worcester Warriors.

The 33-year-old bagged 10 tries in 23 appearances during the last campaign.

He also impressed in his maiden season, bagging three tries in 18 Aviva Premiership starts.

Olivier has played 41 times for Warriors since joining the club in October 2015 and was keen to remain at Sixways.

Olivier said: “I’ve felt at home since moving to Worcester where I’ve made some great friends inside and outside of the club.

“Hopefully I can help us push up the table towards our goal of becoming a top-end side.”

Fellow South African Dewald Potgieter is now the only first-team player on the books of Warriors whose future has not been confirmed.

The former international was in top form in Worcester’s 28-23 home defeat against Leicester Tigers in their final league match of the campaign.

The 30-year-old is out of contact this summer but is expected to follow Olivier in committing his future to Warriors.

A total of 23 first-team and academy players are leaving Sixways after a squad assessment by director of rugby Gary Gold.

However, Warriors had been keen to keep powerful loosehead prop Val Rapava Ruskin and dynamic back row Chris Vui who are joining Gloucester and Bristol respectively.

Olivier has played for South Africa 38 times with his last appearance coming in June 2014 in a win over Wales.

He was also part of the Springboks' World Cup-winning squad in 2007.

At club level, Olivier was a key component of a successful Bulls side in his home country from 2005 to 2013, where he tasted both Super Rugby and Currie Cup success with the province.

He then moved to France for two seasons with Montpellier making 38 appearances and featured for the illustrious Barbarians at Sixways in September 2015.

Gold said: “Wynand is an experienced international who has been fantastic for us during his first couple of seasons with the club.

“He adds vital know-how to the backline and we’re delighted he’s decided to extend his stay.”
