HIGHLY-rated backs coach Sam Vesty's future at Worcester Warriors is up in the air after revealing his contract finished at the end of this season.

But Vesty insists he has a “massive emotional connection” to the Aviva Premiership outfit who gave him his first job in coaching.

The former Leicester Tigers and Bath ace has made a big impact at Warriors since joining their backroom staff four years ago.

Despite Worcester’s struggles last term, Vesty’s coaching skills caught the attention of England boss Eddie Jones as the Sixways side chalked up 56 tries in the league.

The 35-year-old was appointed skills coach for their summer tour of Argentina and admitted he was still in contact with Jones.

But he insisted he was only focused on Warriors as they prepare to take on Sale Sharks in the Anglo-Welsh Cup on Friday (7.45pm) and would not be drawn into questions over his future beyond this season.

“I am with Worcester Warriors until my contract runs out at the end of this year,” Vesty said.

“But I am absolutely focused on winning games here and nothing else is running through my mind.

“I want to make sure that we win this weekend and focus on building as we have started to make some gains and I want that to continue.”

Vesty arrived at Worcester in 2013 after being named transition coach by ex-director of rugby Dean Ryan and quickly made an impression.

He guided Worcester Cavaliers to the final of the Aviva A League in 2014/15 season and helped the likes of Perry Humphreys, Jamie Shillcock and Dean Hammond make the step up to the first team.

His efforts led to him being promoted to backs coach in 2015 and has been put in charge of Warriors’ Anglo-Welsh Cup campaign this term.

“I absolutely love it out there, running around with these boys,” Vesty said.

“Worcester Warriors have given me that first chance and I have absolutely loved it and continue to.

“I have a massive emotional connection to Worcester.”

Warriors chief Gary Gold will leave the club next summer to become USA’s head coach.

But when asked whether he would consider becoming a director of rugby, Vesty replied: “That’s not something that excites me to be honest. I am tracksuit sort of guy who wants to be a coach.”

During his playing career, Vesty made two seniors appearances for England in 2009 and said he was delighted to be back in the international fold in the summer.

England won the two-Test series 2-0 against Argentina in June.

“I learnt an awful lot from the coaching staff,” Vesty added. “They helped me out and were really good to me.

“Hopefully I can impart that onto our guys.

“I am still in contact with Eddie, but I’m at Worcester Warriors and I’m out there to go and win some Premiership games - that’s where my focus is.”
