WING Bryce Heem reckons the “backseat” influence of Alan Solomons has been key to driving Worcester Warriors’ try-scoring form.

After struggling to take their chances in the early part of the season, Warriors have crossed the whitewash 19 times in their past four matches.

Four of those came in Worcester’s 30-15 victory over Northampton Saints with Heem bagging a hat-trick.

Veteran coach Solomons arrived at Sixways in mid-October to stand in as director of rugby while Gary Gold was in South Africa.

The 67-year-old is expected to remain at the club as a consultant and Heem admitted he had contributed to Worcester’s recent success.

“Every single player in our backline is dangerous,” Heem said.

“I think we have shown we are not going to run from everywhere but when the chance is on we are going to take it.

“Alan has guided from a back seat, so it’s the coaches that are already in position that are taking the reins a bit more.

“Alan has helped guide them a bit more, but I think his impact has helped us to attack a little bit more and take our opportunities.”

Heem has also credited the work of backs coach Sam Vesty.

“Sam is a young coach but he knows his stuff and he wants to play running rugby,” he said.

“I love that so I get on well with Vesty and I think he will be a great coach for us going forward.”

Warriors have had an injury-hit start to the campaign but welcomed back a number of first-team stars against Saints.

Heem marked his first appearance in the league since late September with a treble while Warriors were also boosted by the returns of Francois Hougaard and Ryan Mills.

And Heem believes Warriors could be in store for an “exciting” rest of the season – if they can keep their key players fit.

“I was excited to be out there playing with a lot of guys I have not played with in a while,” Heem said.

“It was a great feeling and there was a lot of running rugby out there. We looked good with the ball in hand and executed everything pretty well.

“I think having everyone back from injury has helped.

“We put out a pretty strong team out on Saturday so it could be an exciting rest of the season for us.

On Hougaard and Mills, Heem added: “They are both exceptional players.

“Millsy is such a good communicator with great vision of the game and Francois is a freak athlete.”
